A Youth Bridge Building Project

The Ratiu Center for Democracy and the Ibn Khaldun Center for Development Studies would like to thank all students who attended the first program of EEADYN - the Turda Democracy Gatherings - that took place this past summer in Turda, Romania for their energy and participation! Arab students from Morocco, Jordan, and Egypt had the opportunity to join Eastern European students in Romania in their quest of furthering their understanding of democratic values and behaviors.

Participants took part in many activities that worked to promote their understanding of different cultural viewpoints, bridging relationships between youth from different towns, countries, and regions, and allowed them to look at both theoretical and practical understanding of democracy. They were given the chance to have an open forum to debate and discuss topics such as minority rights, journalism, the private sector, and religion and how these topics are related to the values and behaviors of democracy.

Due to the great success of this year’s program, ICDS and RCD hope to continue developing our youth understanding of the values and behaviors of democracy.
